In this section we have highlighted the main routes to Duart. The main ferry routes have been marked on our map (click on the map to see an enlarged version with ferry routes marked.). We have also included some 'transport links' in the 'contact us' section of the site for your convenience.

Duart is well signposted 1½ miles from Craignure on the road to Iona, turning left at the turning to Kilpatrick. Duart is 1½ miles further at the end of this road.

By Ferry

The sailing from Oban takes 45 minutes to Craignure, on the Isle of Mull and this ferry connects with trains and buses on the mainland. It is advisable to book cars at all times, and you MUST purchase your ticket before getting on the ferry.

You can also sail to Mull on a small ferry from Lachaline (on the mainland) to Fishnish, which takes 20 minutes.

By Coach

At Craignure, the Duart Coach, meets the 10am, 12 noon and 2pm ferries, Sunday to Friday. The coach is easy to identify as it is painted with the Duart Castle logo.

On Saturday the timings are slightly different, 10.30am and 12.30pm.

The ferry journey takes 40 minutes and the coach trip to the castle takes 10 minutes.

The Duchess

You can also sail directly to Duart on The Duchess, which leaves from The Esplanade in Oban, to the jetty at Duart.

Weather permitting The Duchess leaves Oban at 10.00am each morning, arriving back at 1.30pm and leaves again at 2pm each afternoon, arriving back in Oban at 5.30pm. Each trip allows 1½ hrs ashore at Duart.

By car

Oban - Glasgow (3hrs)

The straighter road is through Invereray and Dalmally.

Oban - Edinburgh (3½hrs)

Drive through Stirling, Callender and Crianlarich.

Oban - Perth (2¾ hrs)

Drive through Crieff and Crianlarich.

All times are approximate. If you're taking your car on the ferry you must arrive at the ferry terminal in Oban 30 mins before departure time.

Driving on Mull

Most roads to Mull are single track. Please take care and use the passing places to allow overtaking as well as allowing cars from the opposite direction to pass, use the passing space on the left or stop on the road opposite a passing place on the right.
